Remember those horrible slideshows from the 90s? The clip-arts, the cheesy spinning text, the Comic Sans... Of course, you’d never create something that awful. The thing is… Modern trends in design come and go quickly. So quickly that a presentation you think is perfectly fine might make modern audiences go, you know, “OK Boomer.”

How do you avoid that? Just pick a modern PowerPoint template from this article. I’ve gone over about 500 contemporary templates for PowerPoint to save you the time and compile only the finest ones, all in one place.

Spend 5 minutes viewing the gallery, pick a template that best fits your needs, and go crush that presentation!

Storydoc’s truly modern alternative to PowerPoint

Modern presentations need more than modern looks.

“Modern PowerPoint template” is a phrase as oxymoronic as “honest liar.”

That’s because using static slides in an era defined by dynamic, interactive content is like trying to win a tennis match playing with a baseball bat—no matter how good you are, the tool in your hand is limiting your efforts.

With Storydoc, you’ll transform your static PowerPoint slides into an interactive, scroll-based web presentation. And that’s the only modern way to go in 2021 if you don’t want to feel like a caveman.

Here's a presentation template transformed into a really modern one in our tool:

Slide decks are a relic of the past. With Storydoc, you’ll get interactive content you never thought you’d have. Wow your audience, make a lasting impression, and close more deals. Ready in a flash.

If, for any reason, you want to try and make a (good?) ol’ PowerPoint template work, at least pick one that feels contemporary. Like the ones in our gallery below.

I’ve divided the modern PPT themes into three categories:

  1. Minimalist: perfectly in line with current design trends where simple layout and clean look is everything.
  2. Advanced: not necessarily meant for advanced users—just featuring more complex design elements.
  3. Free to use: basic and simple modern PowerPoint templates you can download 100% free of charge.

Modern minimalist PowerPoint templates

Visuel Colonie design studio of Indonesia brings to you “Simetra,” a modern template for PPT that could work as a poster child for the concept of contemporary minimalist design. It’s elegant, well-balanced, and really cleverly thought out. You get slide layouts suitable for longer text fields, snappy bullet points, and strategically placed image placeholders. Perfect for interior design or architecture.

“Maon” by the prolific PixaSquare studio, unlike the “Simetra” just above, focuses on images over text. It will work very well for presentations where visuals are key: think portfolios, product overviews, or mood boards.

Originally intended as a recreation of a lookbook or a magazine layout, “Kalina,” created by Elokkastudio, will let you create stunning digital brand guidelines, marketing kits or overall branding presentations. The pack comes with over 600 slide layouts so you’ll certainly find ones that suit your message (although it might take some browsing until you do!).

The first truly corporate modern PowerPoint presentation template in our gallery. “Simple” was created by SimplePTT studio which, obviously, specialized in minimalist designs for PowerPoint. Plenty of white space will give your readers the much-needed breathing room, delicate colors will soothe their eyes, and different options for charts and visualizations will let you depict your data any way you want.

“Muro,” another one created by PixaSquare, challenges the PowerPoint status quo, offering vertical A4 slides instead of the typical 16:9 ones. A great option if you need to make a mini ebook, brochure, or a press kit. Recommended in particular if the presentation is intended for print.

business plan

Business plan

Perhaps too enterprise-looking to my taste, the “Business Plan” PowerPoint pack by Graphic Resource cannot be ignored just because of how content-rich it is. You get 340 fully customizable slides for any purpose imaginable, 3000+ vector graphics, and 6 color themes, all of which look polished and thoughtful. A good choice for corporate presentations.

The “Nebulla” PowerPoint template is loud, daring, and very distinct. On the one hand, it only offers 35 slide layouts. On the other hand, all slides are super easy to work with so you can play around with the positioning of text fields and image placeholders all you want. A fantastic pick for all creative industries.

Designed in Indonesia by Dz Alfindani and inspired by Scandinavian looks, “Swedish” is another template on our list with a heavy focus on text. Its large headings will direct attention to your key points, extensive text fields will let you elaborate on what matters most. If you want to try before you buy, you can get a free pack with just a few slides to test out this template before you commit.

Designed with medical or healthcare products in mind, this modern template will work just as well for any other technological presentation. They layout of the slides is very elegant and you get placeholders for any kinds of "standard" product presentation elements.

With a name like this, the “Modern” PowerPoint design couldn’t miss the list. To more conservative eyes, some elements of this template might come off as too avant-garde but it certainly has all the qualities a template needs to stand out from the crowd. Bonus points for incredible consistency with headings, font sizes, and spacing throughout the whole document.

Free modern PowerPoint templates

Laying it on the line: probably the best entirely free modern PowerPoint template I’ve come across. There, I said it. “Zaen” by Powerpointify is a great choice for personal use and could even work for some basic company presentations. Just 15 slide layouts might make customization a bit of a pain but I don’t blame the creators for it. All in all, great value for (no) money.

Green slides

It’s basic, plain, and boring to some but it has nice-looking font combinations (always a sucker for a good serif-sans-serif mix), decent customization options and a rigid layout to make sure your slides never break too badly.

“Exclusive” by Powerpointify is a solid pick for business proposals, project overview slide decks, or roadmap presentations. A strong focus on processes and data visualization makes this one a really good pick for anyone who needs to present a lot of numbers in a captivating way.

little pop up

Little pop-up

A Storydoc templates gallery wouldn’t be itself without at least one eccentric design and “Little Pop-Up” is just that. Inspired by the UI of Mac OS yet with a retro twist. Can’t be sure what the ideal use for this template is, but it’s surely unforgettable!

21 slides including image placeholders, tables, flowcharts, and graphs, wrapped in an eye-pleasing color palette, with lots of space for longer descriptions. “Seattle,” by Powerpointify, is a modern PPT template ideal for personal use or small local brands that cannot yet afford to pay for their marketing materials.

And that's a wrap!

Hope you found a modern template for PowerPoint that’ll help you highlight how up-to-date you are with all the novelties in web communications. I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t remind you that PowerPoint really isn’t so modern a solution anymore… But I’m sure, by now, you know all too well what I think about it, right?

Either way—fingers crossed for your next presentation!
